I do believe that they just twist off. There isn’t a push in to it. It simply twists off. It may be a little rusty but with a little work it will come off. I also have a 64 Mercury Marauder with the upgraded steering wheel although it is still in storage for a couple more weeks. Once out I can definitely check it out on mine. If you have any other questions, don’t be afraid to ask. Thanks Wayne

Your VIN # should be on the drivers side door post. It is the string of letters and numbers that are listed as the Vehicle Warranty Number. This is identical to the vin plate under your hood. Thank You, Wayne Miller

If you have access to Facebook there is a group on there that is called 65-68 Mercury Full Size Community. Go on the site and ask your question. There is a guy on there that is a whiz at vacuum questions. Hope this helps you out. In the manual it only mentions vacuum controls and does not get into it. Thank You , Wayne Miller

After market radios that are AM/FM that would fit and have a Ford logo on them are readily available on ebay. Just search for 1963 Mercury Radio . Clocks for 1963 @ 1964 Mercury’s look similar and there are a couple one ebay both for around $150.00 . One is New Old Stock and the other is refurbished and guarenteed. There are several others in the $25-$50 range that are untested. I also think I have a clock in my parts that is either 63 or 64. If interested I would look for it. Hope this helps and if you have more questions , just ask. Wayne Miller

I take it you have a automatic on the column. I was always under the impression that the detent was set at the transmission , with an adjustment to the linkage. Let me check my manuals and if I find something I will let you know .

Should be able to contact Macs or Auto Crafters or some similar company for a brake booster. Even local auto parts stores should have a workable booster. Good Luck

Sorry it took me awhile to answer you Nick. My name is Wayne Miller and I have had a couple of 65 Fullsize Mercs and the fuse situation should be the same. The fuse panel is mounted on the interior fire wall near the brake pedal . This contains the main fuses , although there are fuses located in numerous other switches , such as the headlight switch . If you would like I could send a copy of what I have which comes out of the shop manual . Or I would suggest picking up a 1966 fullsize Ford and Mercury shop manual . They are normally available on ebay for $30 – $40 . Well worth the expense . Please respond if you have more questions and welcome to the club. A bunch of really good people . Thanks Wayne

Here is what I found in the manuals I have . Starting at the No. 4 cylinder , loosen the right valve rocker arm shaft support bolts in sequence , two turns at a time . After the bolts are all loosened , remove the valve rocker arm shaft assembly and the oil baffle plate . Starting at No. 5 cylinder, follow the same procedure on the left valve rocker arm shaft support bolts . THIS PROCEDURE MUST BE FOLLOWED TO AVOID DAMAGE TO THE VALVE MECHANISM .

Firing order numbers should be on top of your manifold . Hopefully this helps , keep us informed . Thanks Wayne

David , I recently had my heads rebuilt and they told me to have the head planed and the exhaust manifold planed and to go without a gasket at all . They said gaskets will fail wherever there is not a smooth mated surface . It worked great , you mate them up and torque them down to specs . No need to rertorque as the surfaces are smooth . If you have any questions just call me at 763-807-0540 . Wayne Miller , Judy says Hi .

Bruce , it appears to be a somewhat specific cable that fits 390 and 428 Mercs . With some looking on ebay I found a NOS cable part # c75z-9a758-a . It says it is for a Thunderbird and full size Ford , so I think it would be correct for a Merc . The ebay item # is 391702529843 it has a buy it now price of $189.99 plus shipping . It also has pictures so you can check it out .

It sounds like you are missing some pieces or at the least they are worn out . I can’t speak for 68’s but I have experience with 65-66 fullsize . They have screws that attach the headlight bucket to the grill , with a ring that goes around the headlight to hold it in the bucket . Then there are some separate screws that are used to adjust where the beam goes . It sounds like your spring steel nut that you screw into is worn out and it not holding the bolt . You can usually find those replacements at the hardware store . Also the best thing you can do is go out and purchase a Mercury repair manual for your year of each of your cars . Cost $25-$40 each , but well worth it . Let me know how it goes and Good Luck .

I can’t find any breakout numbers for 428’s alone . It would be helpful to have your full serial # from the door tag . Also , I have had some luck writing or calling the production plant where the car was built . Ask them if they can forward any info . (Ask for the History Dept.) You may also have some luck having a Marti Report done . Send serial # and I will see what I can find . Thanks, mrmerc1965
