    RE: 1965 Mercury Monterey 390

My car has a bad exhaust manifold leak and needs new gaskets. Two places have declined to install the new gaskets.

I’m told that there is a 90% chance, at least, that a bolt would break off in the block…and that would develop a need to pull the engine.

Any helpful advice on how to remove the bolts without breaking them, would be appreciated.

David , I recently had my heads rebuilt and they told me to have the head planed and the exhaust manifold planed and to go without a gasket at all . They said gaskets will fail wherever there is not a smooth mated surface . It worked great , you mate them up and torque them down to specs . No need to rertorque as the surfaces are smooth . If you have any questions just call me at 763-807-0540 . Wayne Miller , Judy says Hi .
