    The wiring going to my 1954 Mercury brake light switch has deteriorated to about 6 inches from the firewall. The original wire is available to splice onto but I am not sure what gauge wire to order.

    I think if you order the same color, it should be the same gauge

    Color has absolutely nothing to do with the size of the wire. Use 16 gauge. 18 will do, and you can use 14 if that is what you have.
