1959 Trunk lid question

Dear Members,

To replace the old seal of the trunk lid of our 59 Montclair I removed the lid, turned it around and realized two tap holes (thread UNF 3/8“) behind the chrome handle bar beside the lock.
I have no clue what the holes are good for or what could be fixed there.
Any idea?
I don’t know how to add a picture here but I would send it by email asap.
