On my 1956 Mercury with automatic transmission, just one day the neutral safety switch QUIT. The back-up part of the switch did not work right all along. I had to pull back on the shift for the lights to come on. Anyway, I ordered a new combination switch, wired it in BUT the contacts do not reach the shift column, it appears. The switch is wired correctly. I do not feel any ridges or anything else to make contact with this switch inside the column. Any ideas?
Now OK, I put is a toggle switch for the neutral switch, and I may put in a button switch for the back-up switch. I have to be careful as my Merc will start in any gear when switch is on.
