To install a headliner in a 1955 Mercury should the windshield and back glass be out of the car? The paint shop took my glass out and I cannot tell if the headliner was wrapped around the lip of the windshield and back glass like it is in something like a Mustang or not. I would like to go ahead and install the glass so the car is drivable but haven’t had the headliner installed yet. Don’t want to put in the glass if they need it out. It looks like the headliner was just glued under the chrome window trim but not sure. Thanks for any info.

Hello – I’ve restored several Fords from that era and the glass needs to be out of the car for a proper headliner installation. One thing you might do is to ask the company you source the headliner from what they recommend. Sometimes these pre-made kits do not fit too well. Find a good upholstery shop that can make it from scratch and see what they say. Good luck!
